Iran live: Houthis strike Saudi mosque causing injuries

The capture could give Iran another potential point of leverage in its war with the US

Independent UK - World - 32 minutes ago

Live - Iran war: Two injured, mosque damaged as projectile falls in Saudi Arabia's Jazan region - Foreign ministers of Gulf states are set to meet their Iranian counterpart on September 14 as Oman and Iran seek regional support for a temporary agreement to facilitate and manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, according to a Financial Times report.

The meeting is expected to take place in the Omani coastal city of Salalah, the report said, citing two people briefed on the matter.

Tehran's effective blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime corridor, has emerged as a major flashpoint in the conflict, which began with joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28, with Tehran moving to block the strait days later as part of its retaliation.

Meanwhile, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi and Pakistan Army chief Asim Munir reportedly held talks on Thursday as Tehran's conflict with the United States showed no signs of easing, a Pakistani security official said.

The talks focused on efforts to revive diplomatic channels and de-escalate the conflict between Iran and the US on all fronts, the official told Reuters on Friday.

The two also discussed strikes by Tehran-backed Houthi forces in Saudi Arabia, a US ally, an attack which injured 73 people.

The Houthi attacks prompted Pakistan's defence minister Khawaja Asif to warn that Islamabad could invoke the recently signed Mecca Pact with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye, under which an attack on one member would be treated as an attack on all three.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia also have a mutual defence agreement signed in September last year.
