My late husband has three children and I have none. We severed joint ownership of our house. When the first person died their half of the house would go into trust for the three children to benefit from upon the second person's death. We did this not realising my husband would die within two years. I'm now 53. I can live in the house and move house but I can't cohabit. Unfortunately two of my step children believe I should buy them out. As they see it, they have half a house they can't do anything with, which is very short sighted.20 hours ago

When Easyjet launched in November 1995 with a flight from London to Glasgow, it operated just two routes. Since then, it has grown into the UK's largest airline, offering more than 927 routes across more than 34 countries. Now US private equity investors are circling the airline, with two rival bids tabled this week meaning Easyjet could soon fall into foreign hands. A deal between Easyjet and one of its US suitors could bring about significant changes for customers of the budget airline.9 hours ago

Sole traders and landlords earning more than £50,000 from their self-employment and property have until Friday to make their first quarterly report to HMRC under the new Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax regime. The major tax shake-up is set to overhaul how hundreds of thousands of Britons report their income and expenses to His Majesty's Revenue and Customs. In total, 864,000 sole traders and landlords are in scope for the first wave of MTD for Income Tax, according to HMRC estimates.2 days ago
Some 22 per cent of adults said they had less faith in pensions once they learned that unspent pots will become liable for death duties from spring 2027. However, 49 per cent of people said this didn't change their view of pensions, which come with perks such as free employer contributions and government tax relief. Standard Life, which analysed the 'ripple effect' of the new IHT rules, is worried people who over-estimate the impact of a future inheritance tax bill could be deterred from saving into pensions.1 day ago
The business that owns iconic Nottingham bike manufacturer Raleigh has begun insolvency proceedings. I worked for a company from around 2013 to 2015. I left when my father died and went home to look after my mother. When I had some time to chase up pensions more recently, I asked my former employer where my contributions were. I received an email which in effect said I have lost the pension. I didn't know you could lose a pension and haven't with all my other providers, some going back 30 years, so I am confused as to why this is allowed to happen.2 days ago
