Months after his death my mum has had no correspondence from Capita with regards to her spouse's pension although they returned the death certificate in December. What was presumably a simple task (take my dad's pension figure, halve it, and there you have my mum's pension figure) has now become much more complicated. There will now also be arrears and I assume interest and possibly compensation to calculate. There will also be the tax implications of income bunching to consider. For my 81-year-old mum it is all just too much.8 hours ago

Tuesday marks the start of September and the introduction of the new '76' number plate age identifier, succeeding the '26' plates fitted to models registered after March 1. Peter Rosengard is best known for founding London's Comedy Store, managing the hit 1980s pop act Curiosity Killed the Cat, and getting into the Guinness Book Of Records for selling the world's first ever $100 million life insurance policy. The flamboyant 79-year-old has also had breakfast at Claridge's Hotel in London more than 10,000 times. 'It's a miracle I'm still standing, given my daily diet of scrambled eggs and crispy bacon,' chuckles the divorced father of one grown-up daughter, who has just written a motivational self-help 'how to sell' book.1 day ago

Nvidia has done it again. Its latest quarter brought in nearly £71billion of revenue, up 106 per cent on a year earlier. Those are not the numbers of a bubble losing air. They are the numbers of a world that wants far more intelligence than today's infrastructure can supply, and is paying whatever it takes to get it. For Britain, the interesting question is what we intend to do with it. I have spent fourteen years building artificial intelligence systems, even longer as an investor in them.8 hours ago

Canada is looking to expand its trade links with Britain as its latest trade war with the US pushes it to other allies and wean itself off its southern neighbour. Sources familiar with the situation told The Mail on Sunday that Mark Carney's government was warming to a 'CANZUK' alliance, including Australia, New Zealand and the UK, after trade talks with the US collapsed abruptly last week sparking a new round of tit-for-tat tariffs. 'I think if you asked anyone in the government, they would all say they are very supportive of this CANZUK idea,' one source said, adding the UK and Canada had a 'historic opportunity' to bolster trade ties, saying both had become 'estranged' from their largest trading partners, the US and EU respectively.12 hours ago

The Government plans to let older people off paying income tax if their 'only income is the full new or basic state pension without any increments' - but details are still pending. Former Pensions Minister Steve Webb says: 'The uncertainty about the proposed "tax waiver" on state pensions makes it difficult for people deciding now whether or not to defer taking their state pension.' A This is Money reader contacted us to say he believes he will be penalised in future compared with those who didn't delay, because he already deferred in 2020-21 and so gets £11.48 a week extra state pension.6 days ago
